The study will serve as a basis for developing Sustainable Waste Management and determined gaps will serve as a basis for recommendations for developing information education and communication (IEC) materials about SWM. The indirect benefits of the study are to improve understanding of the impact of solid waste on the environment and Solid Waste Management in the University. The researchers used the Slovin Formula to calculate the sample size necessary to achieve a certain confidence interval when sampling a population. This formula is used when you don't have enough information about a population's behavior to know the appropriate sample size. The study showed that the respondents had not been educated about proper waste disposal at the university. The majority of the respondents across all groups that waste disposal is a problem in the university. Laguna University, being one of the offices under the Provincial Government of Laguna (PGL) is committed to supporting all of its programs and therefore, it is committed to implementing the policies related to the solid waste management of the PGL. Laguna University should not only prioritize educating not only the students but all of its stakeholders to care for the environment which includes proper solid waste management. Laguna University should have a Sustainable Development Plan to protect the present as well as the future of Laguna University in terms of solid waste management. Lastly, the issues identified in Laguna University should establish guidelines aimed at improving the management and the collection of waste in schools. The absence of knowledge regarding SWM may impact their behavior and attitude toward sustainable practices and should therefore be addressed first to ensure the success of any environmental program.
Roel Lapiz Fucio, Monette O. The study looked into the institutional, personal, and professional motivations, involvement, and challenges of college faculty toward the conduct of community extension activities. Descriptive research was employed in the study which included a survey questionnaire. The study used convenience sampling from the college faculty of Cavite State University – Silang, Campus, Cavite Philippines. The respondents concurred that the most pertinent institutional motivations for participating in community extension were achieving university accreditation and improving the school's standing. It was also found that the professional motivations of faculty were to get excellent remarks in the Individual Performance Commitment Review (IPCR) and believed that their engagement in community extension would be significant to their promotion. Their participation in initiatives for gender and development (GAD) and skill development was evident. However, it was discovered that, based on experience, the lack of time for carrying out extension activities was identified and they perceived that the lack of interest in extension thrusts and priorities might be a problem. It is noteworthy how hard college faculty members work to participate in the various campus-wide extension programs. However, it must be ingrained that community initiatives function best when self-support, self-reliant, and self-sustaining principles are followed as a way to empower the clientele. The findings will help school administrators review their community extension policies and make decisions that are in line with the goals of the university.
Cereneo Jr Sailog Santiago, Adolfo C. Likewise, it analyzed the relevant conditions and experiences two weeks after the stroke diagnosis and subsequently sought rehabilitation through physical therapy. This study aims to identify the demographic profile of stroke patients, the challenges encountered by post-stroke patients, and the coping strategies for these challenges, and to suggest a program of care that would guide the post-stroke patients through their challenges and enhance their coping strategies. The study employed a qualitative approach. The researcher conducted a thematic analysis after placing the data in domains and constructing core ideas for each case. Various instruments, such as interview guides, focus group discussions, and observation, were used for data collection and triangulation. Moreover, this study used purposive sampling in selecting participants that would fit the criteria needed for the success of this research. The study locale is the VGP Physical Therapy Clinic, Pangasinan. Most post-stroke patients in this study have demonstrated immobility, hemiparesis, ataxic gait, and poor grip as their major physical challenges. The challenges were addressed by attending physical therapy sessions and increasing their daily activities. They also expressed a feeling of hopelessness, anxiety, heightened emotional distress, sleep deprivation, and depression as their emotional challenges. Their coping behaviors include strong willpower and family involvement. Additionally, they stated that social isolation, communication barriers, and hopelessness are their psychosocial challenges in dealing with social engagement and family involvement. Lastly, the spiritual challenges that they have encountered are church withdrawal and lack of faith. However, they hurdled their spiritual challenges through intense devotion and family involvement.
Gerly Perez Patawaran ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/226 Sun, 28 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Essay Writing Performance of Grade 10 Students: Basis in Developing an Essay Writing Module //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/176
The study determined the writing performance of the Grade 10 learners along argumentative and persuasive essays which led to the development of an Essay Writing Module. It made use of descriptive, correlational, and developmental research designs. The researcher used a questionnaire and essay outputs as the data-gathering tools. The 195 student-respondents were chosen using the random sampling technique. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and t-test were utilized to analyze the data. Overall, the writing performance of the learners along with argumentative and persuasive essays reflected convincing results. Furthermore, respondents seem to display better performance in a persuasive essay. With these significant findings, the essay writing module was developed, which was found very valid. Based on the conclusions, the following recommendations were drawn: exposure of learners to various social media platforms may be regulated; provision of engaging writing activities is encouraged to all learners; enrichment of teaching pedagogies in writing is needed; creation of communication plan by administrators is recommended to address the problem areas; the Essay Writing Module may be used as instructional material and that further studies can be conducted to continuously explore possible pedagogical interventions.
Maribel Naungayan Galuardo ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/176 Sun, 28 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Multiple-Level Vocabulary Knowledge Among Senior High-School Students //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/239
This research employed the mixed-methods research (MMR) methodology to ascertain the current vocabulary knowledge of senior high school students. The MLVA tool, which underwent a validation process by the English teachers of the target respondents, was utilized to gauge the vocabulary knowledge of the 198 respondents to the study. Additionally, a semi-structured interview dealt with the limiting factors that the respondents view as playing a role in their current extent of vocabulary knowledge. These centered around attitudinal factors, socio-economic factors, social factors, and extra-curricular factors. It is revealed from the results that, while the trend is that the students fail to meet the set expectations of their teachers, as reflected in the results of the MLVA, their expression of confidence in their word knowledge received the lowest mean score. As for the limiting factors perceived by students that hinder their vocabulary knowledge, the interviews reveal that all four factors play significant roles, albeit in varying degrees. In light of the findings, the senior high school students have been revealed to be unable to reach the expected level of vocabulary knowledge for their grade level. Based on the results of the findings, intervention methods are therefore recommended to be implemented to augment the students' vocabulary knowledge. These can take the form of enrichment or supplementary lessons or the crafting of a vocabulary enhancement material (VEM) that directly targets the weaknesses of the students in terms of vocabulary knowledge.
Adrian Clark Dulay Perez, Laarni Balansay Perez ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/239 Sun, 28 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Stress Management Practices Among Healthcare Workers in the COVID-19 Vaccination Program //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/230
As frontline workers against COVID-19, Healthcare Workers serve as vaccinators of COVID – 19 vaccines among the eligible population. In addition to the stress brought by caring for COVID-19 patients, healthcare workers need to balance themselves to render services as vaccinators. Being exposed to COVID-19 patients, healthcare workers are prone to physical and psychological stressors affecting their mental health. The research answered the queries concerning the stress management practices among healthcare workers during the COVID19 Vaccination program in selected municipalities of Eastern Pangasinan. The study found out that since females dominate the healthcare profession, it is noteworthy that most of the respondents belong to the most dominant gender; young adults who finished their bachelor's degree were employed for 1 – 3 years in the schools and were used as Nurses. Healthcare workers practice stress management techniques and stress coping mechanisms. The stress management practices of healthcare providers in COVID-19 vaccination are moderately affected by the factors presented. The respondents have a perception of stress management practices across their profiles. Therefore, there are no significant differences between the stress management practices among healthcare workers in the COVID-19 vaccination program in selected municipalities of Eastern Pangasinan across their profiles. Hence, the null hypothesis is accepted. Keywords: COVID – 19, stressors, factors, healthcare workers, stress, stress management, vaccination.
Daniel Vista Rodriguez ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/230 Sun, 28 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Awareness and Practices of Barangay Health Workers to Waterborne Diseases: Basis for a Proposed Capability Training Plan //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/248
Barangay health workers (BHWs) play an important role in every community health care delivery system. They act as frontliners under the primary health care approach. They render primary care services such as first aid and maternal, neonatal, and community-based interventions in the community. This study generally aimed to determine the awareness and practices of barangay health workers regarding waterborne diseases: basis for a proposed capability-training plan. Survey questionnaires were used as the primary tool. A total citation was attempted among the BHWs, whereas systematic random sampling was done for the BHWs, resulting in 60 barangay health worker respondents. The findings of the study showed that BHWs serve more than 15-20 households. The motivator factor is more important to BHWs' work performance than hygienic issues. The majority of the barangay health stations must have the essential equipment, instruments, and supplies to provide health care services. However, water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities need to be enhanced. The BHWs are not fully equipped personally with the paraphernalia needed for delivering community services. The schedule of health services is dependent on the midwife. Local policies relative to BHWs are limited. The work environment can be more favorable if BHWs are equipped personally with the resources necessary to provide quality services and if the inadequacy of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities is addressed. Moreover, the functionality of the barangay health station must be maintained. The BHWs Benefit and Incentive Act (RA 7883) must be properly implemented to sustain BHWs' motivation for better work performance.

Roniel De Vera Aquino ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/248 Sun, 28 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Stakeholder's Awareness, Understanding, and Acceptance of the Catanduanes State University’s Mandate, Mission, Vision, Goal, Core Values, and the College of Engineering and Architecture’s Goals and Objectives A.Y. 2021-2022 //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/278
The study aimed to provide answers to the questions about the level of awareness, understanding, and acceptance among internal and external stakeholders of CatSU's mandate, vision, mission, goal, core values, and the CEA’s goals and objectives, and the significant difference in the level of awareness, understanding, and acceptance of CatSU's mandate, vision, mission, goal, core values, and the goals and objectives of the College of Engineering and Architecture among internal and external stakeholders. Their experiences in using this intervention were also documented. Fifty-two (52) students from the twelfth grade of the Philippine Science High School-Ilocos Region Campus for the academic year 2022-2023 were identified as respondents. Two sections of students were distinguished — Control and Experimental, each with twenty-six students. A mixed-method research approach was utilized. The repertory grid method was employed as the intervention in the study. Based on the gathered data, the results of the pretest for both groups showed no significant difference. However, the posttest results indicated a significant difference, with the experimental group scoring higher than the control group. The results of both the pretest and posttest demonstrated a substantial difference, as the scores of students in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group using traditional methods. Three themes emerged from the experiences: more organized, easier, and less time-consuming in completing tasks. From the results, it can be concluded that the repertory grid method is an effective strategy in teaching and writing reviews of related literature and studies. Teachers should address these challenges in teaching and learning, especially in research topics, as students are often unfamiliar with writing technical papers and lack sufficient knowledge of the theories and concepts of crafting a well-structured research paper.
Dominic Patric Garcia Galdonez ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/244 Sun, 28 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Effectiveness of Active Learning Strategy in Improving Students’ Conceptual Understanding in Light and Optics //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/252
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the active learning strategy in improving students’ conceptual understanding of light and optics. The researcher used mixed methods of research, viz., qualitative and quantitative techniques. It utilized a modified multiple-choice test as the main instrument to obtain the data from the respondents. Analysis of the data shows that from the five subtopics considered, the students got the highest complete conceptual understanding percentage of 81% for the interference of light (WM = 2.73; SD = 055) and the lowest for light reflection (75%). Overall, the students have developed a complete conceptual understanding of light and optics (WM = 2.68; SD = 0.64). All the mean scores have significant differences, as shown by the computed t-values, which are greater than the test values for the entire topics. Thus, the active learning strategy was effective in enhancing the conceptual understanding of the students. The results reinforce the idea that engaging students in active learning can lead to the development of conceptual understanding. The results of the study may provide insights to science teachers about the need to constantly expose their students to lessons and laboratory activities focused on active learning to facilitate the development of conceptual understanding. The study utilized a concurrent mixed-methods type of research which provided an integrated, thorough grasp of the topic under inquiry by using the strengths of both qualitative and quantitative approaches while addressing their flaws. The study's respondents are the 138 Library and Information Science (LIS) students who graduated from S.Y. 2020-2021 to 2021-2022. It adopted a validated instrument that assesses the internship program. The results of the quantitative data showed that the internship program inspired their personal aspects (4.41), interpersonal-social (4.49), academic (4.40), employment-specific (4.18), and civic (4.20). It indicates that the student-interns found the online internship compelling. However, the qualitative data results came up with the following themes: (1) poor internet connection and communication issues were their most challenging experienced while doing their online internship. (2) patience and time management for the best solution to their problem. They likewise advised future interns to listen to their superiors and constantly focus during their training. Furthermore, most respondents approved and recommended the offering of blending learning. One of which is the use of organic fertilizer, however, the conventional production of organic fertilizer is tedious and time-consuming. Thus, the extension unit of one of the campuses of a university in the Bicol introduced the concept of Bokashi fertilizer through an Extension Training program. Bokashi is a fermented organic fertilizer that is rich in nutrients that are essential for plant growth and development. Studies have also shown that it can be used as a feed additive to tilapia and swine. The training aimed at capacitating farmers on bokashi fertilizer production. It was divided into theoretical and practical activities where the farmer-participants performed the production process. A pretest and post were given, and the result from the pre-test (M=4.46; SD= 2.25) and post-test (M=6.33; SD=2.31) showed that there is a significant difference in the level of knowledge attained by the participants t(14) =-2.88; p=0.01. This suggests that there is an increase in knowledge among the participants. To date, the farmer-participants are preparing to adopt the said technology and a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been inked and an application to DOLE as a farmers' organization has been approved. Finally, using the BUEMD evaluation tool, both the resource speakers (4.75) and the training evaluation (4.73) received an outstanding remark. In particular, the aforementioned symbols were analyzed through the frame of Jungian psychological reading in an endeavor to uncover the author's intention, particularly that the novel itself is a reflection of the disparity and evolution of the common Japanese psyche. The main characters are analyzed through the four main concepts of Jungian psychology, namely the Persona, the Shadow, the Anima or Animus, and the Self. The archetypal images that Jung theorized classify the symbolisms used by humans are also drawn out from the main characters as a result of the analysis. Subsequently, a separate analysis is conducted on the main character, Mari Asai, and her sister, Eri Asai, putting a due focus on their interactions. From these, the "Self" of the characters is presented as, for Mari Asai, the product of her interactions, even as these interactions are a method of negotiation/modulation of her Shadow and Persona, and for Eri Asai, the meaning of her slumber, the interactions with the shadowy figure, and her eventual awakening in the end. Finally, the paper also analyzes the dominant themes utilized in the novel through the Jungian concept of "collective unconscious". Through the symbols and archetypes identified in the first and second layer of analysis, it shows that the encounters and events that happen in the novel are evocatively used to represent and, in some ways, violate the norms of symbolism, all of which have been done to portray the ongoing identity transaction.
Adrian Clark Dulay Perez, Laarni B. This study was conducted to understand the engagement of business management students in the research and extension projects of the Department of Management Studies at Cavite State University—CCAT Campus. The study utilized a descriptive-correlational research design approach. Moreover, the researchers used a random sampling technique among the 888 business management students, giving each sample equal chances of being chosen. The intended sample size for the study was determined using Slovin's technique, resulting in a total of 571 respondents. A survey questionnaire was disseminated through Google Forms and distributed from different sections of all year levels, from the first to the fourth. The findings showed that students are engaged in the research and extension projects of the university. There were also constraints experienced as they engaged, such as a lack of materials and resources and financial and transportation difficulties. Furthermore, the researchers concluded that there was no significant relationship between the demographic profile of business management students and their level of engagement in factors of research and extension projects such as preparation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Excluding the correlation between gender and engagement in the research projects in terms of preparation, monitoring, and evaluation, these variables have correlated significantly. As a result, the researchers recommend continuously developing the student's participation in the research and extension through various activities and seminars. Faculty members should take the initiative, necessitating programs to raise awareness of each member's role in such projects to increase future participation and engagement of students.
Xavier Lawrence Dela Rea Mendoza, Jerico Bajen Tadeo, Rejeanne S. The provision of universal justice services has evolved into an essential component of the effective and efficient implementation of holistic peace and order. The study aims to investigate the cognizance on the implementation of peace and order in Bacolod City. It utilized quantitative and qualitative approaches, specifically a descriptive-causal research design. This research design is a regularity of causality that underlies the arguments for science-based research on the value of the quantitative computation of data and is supported with a qualitative approach for the causal explanation, which is appropriate for a more productive collaboration of the results and implications of this study (AECT, 2001; Maldonado & Greenland, 2002; Maxwell, 2004; Umstead & Mayton, 2018). The respondents of 123 elected barangay officials, including the chief tanod and five constituents, were selected through purposive sampling. A modified research instrument was employed, and it underwent validation using Lawshe content validity by the research experts in the field. It was then submitted to reliability testing using Cronbach's alpha, which resulted in 0.87 and was considered reliable. This study used a semi-structured interview guide for the informants' interviews. The researcher revealed ‘an increase in the percentage of drug-cleared barangays’ (M = 3.9512), and it also noted that ‘logistical support to the Katarungang Pambarangay’ had manifested (M = 3.9431) in Bacolod City. A significant difference is observed in the level of implementation of peace and order regarding age [U = 1388.00, p = 0.011] and sex [U = 1279.00, p = 0.008] as computed in the Mann-Whitney U test. This study further formulates the "theme": "Effectiveness in the implementation of peace and order programs is based on citizens’ cooperation and effort." Thus, the researcher recommends further studies to confirm the present results, and a replication of this study is highly recommended for future researchers.
John Gerald Arbias Pilar ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/270 Mon, 29 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Gamifying Education: Enhancing Student Engagement and Motivation //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/238
This paper explores gamification in education to improve student engagement and motivation. This exploratory qualitative research depicts viewpoints of radiology professionals involved with quality assurance in the radiology department. The researchers interviewed seven participants from a private hospital in Quezon City, who were involved in the provision of quality assurance program in diagnostic imaging. To guide the conversation, the researchers utilized a structured interview questionnaire to outline essential aspects and practices in quality assurance, and highlight challenges encountered by radiologist which can affect implementation and application of quality assurance in the department. According to the findings, Quality Assurance Team is composed of radiologist, chief radiologic technologists, and radiologic technologist. The personnel’s responsibility during quality assurance program necessitates concerted efforts of the entire radiology department to ensure that consistency of production is maintained. The study revealed that guaranteeing consistent quality outcomes involves cooperation not just within the members of radiology quality assurance team but also with another relevant department such as the biomedical engineering. These engineers are involved in sharing responsibilities in maintaining imaging devices, as well as reducing potential risk caused by image errors that can affect the patients. The researchers, recommends the following: Hospital Management should ensure sufficient budget to sustain effectiveness of quality assurance program in the department; Radiology department should provide necessary materials to be used by the radiologic technologists such as manuals regarding quality assurance; Radiologic Technologists must commit to sustain quality assurance program to obtain patient’s satisfaction by taking innovative approaches to improve the overall image acquired; and Future Researchers may improve the limitations encountered in this study such as the exclusion of radiology professionals working in other hospital in Quezon City.
Rosebelle Diane R. Embajador (2019) cited that the Hiligaynon language is very rich and represents the authenticity and identity of the culture. Even research and documentation identify additional unique features of Hiligaynon, which accurately might linguistically describe and analyze (Casperson, 2010). Thus, this study inspires the premise of Casperson to describe and analyze the distinct features of the Hiligaynon language. The corpora of the study were epiko (epic), komposo (original composition of music), daigon (Christmas song), ambahanon (song), and binalaybay (poem) in Hiligaynon, which focused on the micro levels of analysis. Specifically, the linguistic markers that emerged in the corpora serve as a basis for categorization, description, and interpretation in eagerness to preserve the indigenous Hiligaynon words. The findings were the lexical items as particles showed 394 times in the corpora. The lexical particle, 'agud,' is a lexical-grammatical feature that emerged in the corpora syntactically functioned as part of intra-sentence relators - conjunction joining convergent conditions, or in English grammar as the conjunction. At the same time, the descriptive lexical items were revealed 107 times in the corpora. The lexical descriptive, 'ka,' is also a lexical-grammatical feature that emerged, which functioned as a phrase ligature syntactically. In English grammar, it is a proposition; if it is a pronoun, ‘ka’ is succeeded by a noun. Out of 116 partially selected indigenous Hiligaynon words, there were 111 words included in the final list. The research involved a sample group of 60 classroom teachers, and data was collected using the Ethical Leadership Scale, Teacher Self-efficacy Scale, and Teacher Motivation Questionnaire. The reliability of these instruments was established, with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.87, 0.9, and 0.86, respectively. The findings of the study revealed a significant correlation between ethical leadership and teacher self-efficacy in general. However, when investigating specific aspects of self-efficacy, it was observed that ethical leadership was primarily associated with student engagement and classroom management, but not instructional strategies. This suggests that ethical leadership may have a greater impact on certain dimensions of teacher self-efficacy than others. Furthermore, the results demonstrated a significant relationship between ethical leadership and teacher motivation. This implies that teachers who perceive their leaders as ethical are more likely to be motivated in their work. Ethical leadership may play a crucial role in fostering a positive work environment and enhancing teacher motivation. However, despite the pieces of literature and the endless calls for action, this remains among the prevailing issues in education. Hence, this paper aims to explore the policies further by gathering and analyzing the implications of workload policy and working hours of public school teachers, in the hope of producing a substantial view of the current impact of these policies on the field. Specifically, its (1) effectiveness, (2) efficiency, (3) economy, (4) equity, and (5) impact. The researcher’s purpose is not to generalize teachers’ views, competence, and performance but to review and analyze the prevailing issues and concerns evident in the existing literature and studies. The Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (SR/MA) was used to analyze the implications of workload policy and working hours of public school teachers. The primary sources of data are the policies, literature, and studies on teachers’ workloads, selected through purposive sampling. Thematic analysis using a deductive approach was used to qualitatively analyze the data. The findings revealed that heavy workloads influence teachers’ overall effectiveness and efficiency. Moreover, these issues need to be addressed critically to augment the resources the government can provide to improve access and quality of education since education is vital in sustaining the Philippines’ economy. Based on the findings of this analysis, the following strategies and actions are suggested: policymakers shall have a comprehensive review and analysis of the policy; reduce workloads; improve the data management system; improve the staffing system; hire additional non-teaching personnel; quality teachers’ mentoring programs through professional learning communities (PLCs); programs of other government agencies implemented in schools must be facilitated by the concerned government office/agency, instead of fully delegating the implementation, monitoring, and reporting to teachers; and enhance teachers’ welfare programs.
Hilger Ojos Tarraya ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/246 Mon, 29 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Exploring School Leaders’ Ethical Leadership and Teachers’ Organizational Citizenship Behavior //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/338
This study explores the ethical leadership practices demonstrated by school leaders and their impact on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among teachers. The findings provide valuable insights into the dimensions of ethical leadership perceived by teachers and their engagement in discretionary behaviors that benefit the school and students. The results reveal strengths in fairness and power sharing, indicating that school leaders were perceived as making just and inclusive decisions. However, ethical guidance and role clarification require improvement, emphasizing the need for effective communication about ethics and clear expectations. Teachers exhibited a strong inclination towards OCB, demonstrating a commitment to go beyond their regular responsibilities to support the school and enhance student experiences. The positive correlation between ethical leadership and OCB highlights the importance of ethical leadership in fostering a positive organizational climate. School leaders should prioritize ethical guidance and role clarification, foster a supportive culture, and recognize and reward OCB. Future research should continue to explore the relationship between ethical leadership and OCB, and longitudinal studies can identify causal mechanisms. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of ethical leadership, the need for improvement in certain dimensions, the significance of a positive organizational climate, and the link between ethical leadership and teachers' engagement in discretionary behaviors. It is widely acknowledged that the ability to learn and retain new information, as well as the capacity to perceive and understand complex concepts, is greatly enhanced by the adoption of effective study habits. Given the significant role that study habits play in academic success and personal development, it is important to examine the relationship between these habits and student performance. In this study, a sample of 40 first year BPED students from the Bataan Peninsula State University was selected to explore this relationship. To investigate the relationship between study practices and academic achievement, the researchers utilized the Pearson r correlation coefficient. This statistical method is commonly used to examine the degree of correlation between two variables, in this case, study practices and academic performance. The findings of the study revealed a clear correlation between students' study habits and their academic performance. This indicates that those students who adopt effective study habits are more likely to perform better academically. This correlation can be attributed to the fact that good study habits enable students to retain information more effectively, manage their time efficiently, and approach complex concepts with greater clarity and understanding.
Jay Mark Dela Pena Sinag, Dennis Ivan Omipon, Anjo Cuda, Keenan Maui Medina, Charles Vincent David, Arvi Nazareno, Aeron Jay Tayag ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/323 Mon, 29 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Food Safety Policy Compliance of Local Government Units in Pangasinan //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/288
This study aimed to review the food safety compliance of the Local Government Units in the Province of Pangasinan. The study employed the descriptive-developmental method of research for three homogenous classes of Grade 10 enrolled in the school year 2016 – 2017 using the teaching materials innovated by the researchers. The effects of the developed inquiry lessons for multiple intelligences groups were tested using the standardized achievement test, Science Process Skills Inventory, and the Science Motivation Questionnaire for the attitude of students toward science in terms of motivation. Based on the analysis of the gathered data in the study, it was found that the students’ dominant intelligence varied across multiple intelligences groups: Interactive, Analytical, and Introspective. The developed lessons where the science-inquiry approach was applied were focused on the seven chemistry topics: Kinetic Molecular Theory, Boyle’s Law, Charles’ Law, Gay-Lussac’s Law, Combined Gas Laws, Avogadro’s Law and Biomolecules in 7E’s format. More basic process skills than integrated process skills were manifested. The developed inquiry lessons for multiple intelligences made a difference in the level of conceptual understanding but did not satisfy the 75% performance level in general. The attitudes developed by students in the conduct of the developed lessons of the respective groups were intrinsic motivation, career motivation, self-determination, self-efficacy, and grade motivation. With these, it is a must for a teacher to consider the occurrence of multiple intelligences among students in planning and delivering the lessons. Opportunities in developing science process skills must be given to the students in any possible part of the lesson. Purposive sampling was utilized to select the six respondents, who were community leaders and community health workers. This theory-driven study relied heavily on the Communication for Social Change Model and Convergence Theory. Thematic analysis was used to study the results of semi-structured in-depth interviews and observations. Furthermore, the study identified that COVID-19 catalysts are policy, internal stimuli, and mass media then it goes beyond the above-mentioned assessment stages. Individual assignment of leadership duties and responsibilities induced participation, whereas communication resulted in the formation of dialogues and meetings. The power and approaches to empowerment may have then trickled down to the barangay leaders. The government's pre-existing communication culture, which is even more rigorously vertical and top-down, overshadows efforts for dialogic communication. As evidenced by the work of the barangay health committee, the importance of community participation in the COVID-19 preventive program is gradually being recognized at the community level. Thus, it is recommended that community leaders should hold a formal open discussion with their community members to address their individual COVID-19 concerns, and they should emphasize community participation as means of collectively suppressing the pandemic and as it is a powerful mechanism linked to COVID-19 prevention programs. It is also suggested that future researchers investigate other communication theories and back up their interpretations with quantitative research.
Merilyn P. Rubin, Mark Vincent D. Ansay, Ma. This study focused on the beliefs and hesitancy towards COVID-19 vaccination among the elderly as the Philippine Government imposed a mass vaccination program for the people in the country to fight the COVID-19 virus. This study employed a qualitative research method focused on a wide-ranging interview about the participants' profile, beliefs, and hesitancy towards COVID-19 vaccines. A narrative case study approach was used in compiling and analyzing the recorded interview material, and some findings were reported thematically to ensure a better analysis of the data gathered. Thematic analysis was used to see and process qualitative information using coding systematically. The researcher observed that the elderly’s beliefs about COVID-19 vaccination contributed to their hesitancy to become vaccinated. The elderly were hesitant about the vaccine due to its safety and efficacy and considering their religious affiliations. A comprehensive information education campaign material is needed to increase their awareness of the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination to address the perceived barriers which are linked to their beliefs such as its side effects and health challenges. Thus, the LGU of Rosales, Pangasinan must consider the information education campaign material proposed by the researcher to increase the elderly’s awareness about COVID-19 vaccines.
The general objective of this study is to describe the techniques used in machine translation from English to Filipino. Its specific aim is to assess the use of transference or the retention of terms in machine translation as a means of enriching the corpus in the Filipino language. The study employed a qualitative design, with a descriptive research method. Data were gathered from the official Facebook pages of the Department of Health Philippines and Presidential Communication, focusing on COVID-19-related information. The concept of equivalence was utilized to observe different ways of aligning statements. The analysis of data also involved the concept of naturalization to assess the appropriateness of the alignment. Based on the collected data, the use of transference or the retention of terms emerged, especially when dealing with scientific, technical terms, names of government agencies, and other proper nouns. It was found that retaining terms is not a weakness in machine translation but rather enriches the lexicon of the Filipino language and rescues the translation from being too literal. From the study results, the conclusion was drawn that there is adherence to the standards set by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) regarding the translation of technical, scientific terms, and even proper nouns. Additionally, this technique contributes to the enrichment of the Filipino language lexicon.
Johnel Terante Lumacao, Melba B. Having Nursing protégé programs enables experienced senior students and their junior counterparts a structured framework for sharing knowledge, abilities, and support. This study aims to investigate the satisfaction and perceptions of student nurses in a tertiary Catholic university regarding their experiences as nursing protégés. A mixed-method approach combining quantitative and qualitative surveys was used. Purposive sampling recruited 164 student nurses from a tertiary Catholic institution's Nursing Protégé Program. A researcher-made questionnaire collected their responses. Quantitative data was analyzed for satisfaction levels using frequency and percentage distribution. Thematic analysis was used for qualitative data. The numerical results showed that participants were satisfied with the program. Thematic analysis reveals that participants gain skills and competencies, interpersonal engagement, attainable assistance, synergistic collaboration, and personality development as benefits, while time constraints, non-conducive environmental milieu, and passive group members act as barriers. Direct interpersonal engagement and creative recreational activities are suggested as additional activities for the participants. Students' satisfaction with peer mentoring varies significantly based on their year level. This suggests that individual needs and expectations, along with factors like the mentoring relationship, communication skills, and compatibility with peers, influence their level of satisfaction. Future researchers may explore the development of a customary framework for the Nursing Protégé Program as a peer mentoring mechanism, which may be applicable in academe and clinical practice. The study has important implications for nursing education and practice stakeholders. Educators can improve the nursing protégé program based on the findings, while student nurses can benefit from mentorship opportunities. Future research can focus on mentor-mentee dynamics and program outcomes in nursing protégé programs.
Jearl Stephen M. Figueroa, Ellaine Ellaine S. Ko, Yna Rose Ann S. Seeking help is one method of coping with mental health concerns, and the family dimension has been left out of this subject. This study aims to examine the significance of family communication patterns in how help seeking might be encouraged using a quantitative, cross-sectional design. A survey was done among randomly selected Filipino undergraduate students. Results revealed that academic concerns were the most reported source of distress, followed by family-related issues, and general relationship and support. The top reasons for not seeking help in times of distress include lack of available and accessible sources or means to seek help; self-reliance; and to not be a burden, a bother, or a cause of concern. The most widely reported family types were pluralistic and protective. The type of help (informal vs formal), gender, age, and family communication patterns were significantly related to seeking help. Since family communication has been established to influence help seeking, families and concerned institutions must be equipped with adequate mental health resources for providing immediate assistance and enhancing the coping skills students need to get through difficult situations.
Ferlynn Bordeos Recto, Marison Felicidad R. The participants of the study were foreign students whose first or second language is not English and who completed surveys on classrooms related to connectedness and willingness to communicate. They are currently enrolled in the University of Baguio during the school year 2019-2020. They have been in the Philippines for at least one year. Furthermore, these students are presently enrolled in at least one major subject of their field of specialization. The respondents often (M = 4.08; SD = 0.63) connect and are occasionally (M = 3.25; SD = 0.48) willing to communicate with their classmates in a classroom setting. Moreover, purposive sampling was used in the selection of the research’s participants. Twenty (20) respondents participated in the study. An interview and focus-group discussion were used to determine their styles in displaying agency in the classroom. Outcomes show that foreign students connect with their classmates often. Further, they also occasionally demonstrate a willingness to communicate with their classmates. Thus, the study reflects a low, positive relationship between the foreign students’ connectedness and willingness to communicate within the classroom. The study aims to (1) identify grammatical errors in text scams, (2) compare them with legitimate texts, (3) examine differences in various respondent clusters, and (4) determine the persuasive techniques used in text scams. Using a qualitative and descriptive analysis design, 30 text scams were obtained from students, professionals, and businessmen, along with 10 legitimate texts. It was discovered that there are common grammatical errors in text scams, such as symbol substitution, capitalization, incorrect use of punctuation, broken links, and sentence composition. Text scams are shorter and contain specific words in each cluster, often using prepositions, determiners, and conjunctions in legitimate texts. Scammers use persuasive techniques such as promises of money, discounts, free items, investment opportunities, and requesting immediate responses. While the sentence structure of text scams in different clusters is similar, there are significant differences from legitimate texts, indicating inconsistent grammaticality. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding language patterns in text scams to effectively combat deceptive practices.
Jucille Kate B Delos Santos, Hilnea Beatriz A Napoles, Denzelle Andre C Lozada, Julian Marcus S Ong, Antoine Miguel D Flores, Johnel Terante Lumacao ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/375 Investigation of Grade 9 Students’ Errors in Solving Quadratic Equations in One Variable //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/384
This paper aimed to identify the errors of grade 9 students of one public high school in San Remigio, Cebu, Philippines in solving quadratic equations in one variable by extracting the square root, factorization, completing the square, and using quadratic formula. A written test was used as the main instrument of the study to assess the levels at which students encountered errors during the problem-solving process. The students’ responses were analyzed using the Newman Error Analysis model which includes reading, comprehension, transformation, process skills, and encoding error. To verify the test results, semi-structured interviews were conducted with selected students. Each interview was audio-recorded and transcribed. Triangulation of results was conducted by comparing the written test results with the interview results. The data was analyzed using descriptive method and content analysis. The results showed that students mostly made errors in the process skills followed by transformation, comprehension, then in encoding. Meanwhile, there were no reading errors found. It further determined which of the respondents in terms of sex performed better in solving quadratic equations based on their test scores. Using an independent t-test, it was found out that there was no significant difference on the test scores between male and female students, hence, both groups exhibited equal performance in solving quadratic equations. Based on the findings, it is recommended to all teachers to focus not only on the students' test scores but primarily on the errors made by students during assessments. Recognizing these errors at an early stage enables educators to devise proactive strategies to address and rectify these issues before they potentially worsen and impact students' overall performance.
Mary Carmell Rodrigo Macachor, Pierre Jared Morados ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/384 Sun, 24 Mar 2024 13:07:22 +0800 Finding Meaning for the Abandoned “Effective Protagonist” //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/389
This qualitative research is a literary analysis of Haruki Murakami’s popular book, The Wind-up Bird Chronicle. Descriptive research was utilized with weighted mean, percentages, and ranking as means for analyzing the data gathered. It is discovered in the results that the average passing rate of BSA graduates over the past ten years, 11.69%, is lower than the average national passing rate of 33.28%. This can be attributed to the difficulty they encounter during the exam. Since the exam questions are challenging to understand, test participants struggle to quickly construct their solutions. They experience pressure and tension during the exam in addition to this. Lastly, both in the old and new BLECPA, the local university CPALE exam takers fare poorly in every subject. Based on these findings, the researchers recommend that students look for scholarships in various companies. The Office of Student Affairs can also suggest potential funding sources in the form of scholarships. Also, the institution can plan a one-day activity to encourage students to engage in activities like games that help them develop their physical, mental, and creative capacities. It can pave a firm path toward increasing critical thinking in this way. This study used interviews to examine the varied viewpoints of the teachers while utilizing qualitative research design. Responses concluded that teachers commonly perceive rigid requirements, limited opportunities, and intense competition in their career development experiences. Teachers find promotion guidelines and requirements stringent, hindering their advancement due to lacking additional qualifications. The DepEd’s Merit Selection Plan and Open Ranking System intensify competition among teachers, making promotion more challenging. In addition, school principals and administrators are seen as crucial in providing opportunities for teachers to fulfill career advancement requirements. Furthermore, various factors impede teachers from pursuing career development, including family responsibilities, financial constraints, job burnout, and personal career decisions. Family obligations often take precedence, while financial limitations restrict career advancement. Job burnout resulting from the demands of teaching deter further career development. Some teachers simply choose not to pursue career advancement due to disinterest in furthering their careers. Despite the challenges, teachers expressed contentment, appreciation, and satisfaction with their current positions. Teachers face obstacles such as rigid requirements, limited opportunities, and personal constraints in their career development journeys, but many are ultimately satisfied with their roles as teachers. While many teachers are content with their current positions, there's still a need to address systemic barriers and provide opportunities for those seeking career advancement.
Paula Bianca Pablico Cruz, Nick Nicolas Agpasa ##submission.copyrightStatement## //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/404 Thu, 02 May 2024 09:35:15 +0800 8-Week Self-Training Program in Sepak Takraw //puissant.stepacademic.net/puissant/article/view/403
This study aimed to develop and implement the researcher-made 8-week Self-Training Program in Sepak Takraw. The research method used in the study is quasi-experimental research, pre-test and post-test design. Respondents of the study were 50 athletes from five schools in Pangasinan 1 Division Districts 1 & 2. The researcher administered a Physical Fitness Test as a pre-assessment tool to determine the baseline of performances among the respondents. After the pre-assessment, the researcher then implemented the training program for the respondents for eight weeks. Athletes recorded and documented their progress during the training process. After eight weeks of training, the researcher readministered the Physical Fitness Test as the post-assessment. The results of the study were recorded, tabulated, and analyzed to serve as the basis for the finalization of the proposed training program developed by the researcher. Based on the results, the overall weighted mean of 2.67 with a descriptive equivalent of Good during the pre-test indicates that there's more to improve in other components specifically balance, strength, coordination, and speed. The post-test result indicates that the training program showed a massive improvement in the different skills of the athletes and notable excellent weighted mean scores were observed among the athletes under the following components: flexibility, agility, reaction time, and strength. There was a recorded higher score during the post-test which implies that the 8-week self-training program provided by the researcher resulted in a higher performance among the athletes in terms of strength, flexibility, coordination, agility, speed, power, balance, and reaction time.
Dustin Paolo Tinte Cruz, Russell B. This paper summarizes the situations that led to a career shift among other professionals into teaching. This research study aims to determine the motivations and opportunities for career shifting in teaching. The participants in this study were the Senior High School public school teachers of Bartolome Sangalang National High School in Guimba, Nueva Ecija. Five (5) participants were not education graduates who pursued 18 unit professional subjects for them to take the Licensure exam for teachers. They were purposely chosen as participants. This study used phenomenological qualitative research methods. Thus, this study sought to answer the following questions: What motivates the participants to shift their careers into the teaching profession? What opportunities arise in career shifting? This determined the motivations and opportunities in teaching through career shifting. The results of the study showed that other professions chose to have a career change because of their motivations. These motivations were their passion for teaching, they see that teaching is a self-fulfilling job, and teaching meets the salary they are aiming for. In terms of opportunities, teaching serves as an avenue for the participants to build linkages, regularization of their teaching position, their commitment to share and impart their knowledge, and their opportunity to pursue graduate studies. Moreover, the researchers suggested the conduct of profiling of teachers. Data from the profiling serves as a basis for programming teachers giving them equal opportunities to attend training, seminars, and workshops. Also, teachers are encouraged to enroll in Master's or Doctor’s degrees. Once in a while, school heads may review teachers of how they have become one and their purpose why they have become teachers. Teachers' breakthroughs were also discussed during the challenges they were facing. This research employed a semi-structured interview to obtain responses from the teacher participants. Results revealed that the successes of teachers include seeing teaching as the noblest profession, teachers being valued by their students, and being a part of students' success in life. It is also important to consider teachers' challenges, focusing on the demands of teaching, students' behavior and needs, and teachers' balance between work and life. As shared by dedicated educators, the breakthroughs in achieving work-life balance were centered on time management, professional development, personal development, stress management, and travel. It is recommended that school leaders review their teaching philosophies with teachers, heightened celebrations of teachers' day, and strengthen alum organizations for homecoming activities to foster the relationships of the graduates with their former teachers. School heads give teachers a break from work, the student discipline manual should be discussed with parents to help implement it, and school heads and policymakers highlight the importance of supporting teachers in their endeavors to recharge and deviate from professional tasks. For teachers to achieve breakthroughs, school heads are encouraged to support their teachers in their professional and personal development efforts. Stress management workshops or seminars may be given to teachers to alleviate their stress. This study involved 217 college students in one of the state universities in the Philippines in the school year 2021-2022. Results showed that students agreed that distance education was an effective learning modality in solving mathematical word problems and that it promoted positive attitudes. Meanwhile, students agreed that their instructors have sufficient and effective teaching skills in distance education, although they should enhance their enthusiasm to facilitate the teaching-learning process. While students agreed on the appropriateness and effectiveness of their instructors' use of instructional materials, diversifying instructional materials should be improved. Moreover, Perez’s Learning Mapping was designed based on the study’s results. It consists of four (4) learning procedures, focusing on what students have learned and identifying what students want to connect, create, and share. Also, this study suggests that instructors be exposed to instructional and digital skills training and that seasoned instructors should receive support in adopting digitalization in the present educational system. A favorable correlation between grit and undergraduate grade averages was emphasized and established in the previous investigations. Grit predicts good performance in different situations. This study is a descriptive correlational investigation that attempts to evaluate and document the levels of grit among students who are currently enrolled in the BSE – Mathematics program at a State University in the Philippines. The study includes a total of 143 participants. The results demonstrate a gradual increase in perseverance and passion for long-term goals over the school years. First-year Mathematics major students generally have low levels of perseverance and passion, while second-year students demonstrate high levels of perseverance and passion. By the third year, kids exhibit exceptionally high levels of perseverance and passion. Regardless of these variations, all students constantly demonstrate a lack of interest constancy and an average level of endurance in their efforts. These findings indicate that the College and University should implement specific interventions to improve students' levels of perseverance and passion for long-term goals. Creating holistic programs and strategies to cultivate these non-cognitive skills might enable students to fully actualize their potential in their academic pursuits and future professional endeavors. However, the extent to which pre-service teachers can optimize the outcomes of this course depends significantly on their experiences throughout it. These experiences can either facilitate or hinder their professional and personal growth. This research aimed to explore the experiences of pre-service teachers at Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Tagudin Campus, for the Academic Year 2022-2023 during their teaching internship course, using a mixed-method explanatory research design. Data collected through a survey questionnaire and structured interview question underwent document analysis, specifically descriptive analysis for the questionnaire and thematic analysis for the interview data. The study revealed that the pre-service teachers’ experiences before deployment had a mean score of 3.14, categorized as 'Good (G)', indicating that the preparatory activities were deemed adequate for their forthcoming responsibilities. During deployment, the mean score improved to 3.94, classified as 'Very Good (VG)', reflecting a notably successful performance at their cooperating schools, exceeding average expectations. However, upon returning to the university, the mean score declined to 1.72, denoted as 'Poor (P)', indicating a significantly unfavorable experience.
